Installation of a mounting plate and the RCV Unit to a fixed front blast cabinet

This blast cabinet used sacrificial Mylar underlayment taped to the inside to protect the window from the abrasive.

The first step will be to remove the light assembly and the window. The opening measures 20" wide by 13" tall, it will require the use of mounting plate P/N 728-12-71300.

Locate the mounting plate on the cabinet and mark the outline onto the mounting surface. Using a mounting screw in the top and bottom center holes will assure repeatability. Remove mounting plate and check surface for flatness. This is very important for proper function of film advancement. Using pieces of wood sandwiching the cabinet steel and bar clamps to pry works well to flatten out this surface.

Clean the mounting area on the cabinet and the mating surface of the mounting plate. Apply sealant to the cabinet surface and locate the mounting plate using the center screw holes. Insert the remainder of the fasteners to secure the mounting plate. Clean any excess sealant and allow to cure before use. Secure RCV to the mounting plate with the four thumbscrews. Be sure the foam gasket is to the inside of the housing and not under it. Because our unit has its own lights the original light box will not be needed. The wiring from the original light was routed to a new electrical box, an outlet will be added for the 120VAC to 24VDC power supply for the new lights.

Center the new front door on the cabinet with the piano hinge on the top surface of the cabinet and clamp in place. Move the door up and down to be sure of operation. Drill the holes in the hinge through the top of the cabinet and bolt in place or weld the hinge as the original door was.

RCV-12 placed on the door. Knobs can be positioned up or down as shown. If you blast with the gun in your right hand, down will be better. There is also a lid stay to support the lid in the up position. This will allow use of the original light box without the film barrels of the RCV-12 hitting it. Our replacement for the original light box is shown along with the power control box with an LED power supply.

.Window mounting surface is about 13" and the window opening from top to bottom is 9"

The window mounting surface on this cabinet is less than 16" but greater than 12.5". The existing window opening in the vertical direction is less than 11" so mounting plate P/N 728-12-73300 will be used. Remove existing window frame, gasket, and glass form the cabinet. Remove the four screws from the mounting plate. Position the mounting plate on the window surface and clamp in a position that works for you. You can transfer punch or mark the hole locations or layout the hole locations, be sure not to let the plate move. Remove the mounting plate and drill the locations just marked. The screws that secure the plate are 1/4-20, a 5/16"" diameter drill will give you a little extra latitude when mounting the plate.

Tape was used to enable easier marking during layout. The holes have been drilled and deburred. After the tape was removed the mounting plate was dry fit with the screws provided from inside the cabinet. Install RCV to the screws to assure fit. If everything is good remove it all and reinstall with sealant on the mounting plate and a small amount of thread locker on the screws. Before it all dries check the fit of RCV unit while you can still make adjustments if needed. There are holes on the ends of the mounting plate to squeeze it to the cabinet. We recommend these be used with the fastener of your choice.

There is some overhang of the mounting plate on the cabinet top and front surfaces. These should be filled wood, plastic, etc. with sealant and fasteners. It will assure a good seal of the mounting plate but also stop things from being hooked on an edge.

This mounting plate can also be used on the front lift doors, 36" and wider, on many cabinets. The installation procedure is the same but there probably won't be any over hang of the mounting plate.
